Linux Notes And Links.
I first became interested in Linux when I picked up a copy of Slackware that was on a CD in the back of a computer bargain store book. Having read extensively about this unique operating system I took the book and Cd home to try it out on one of my hopped up PC's. Getting it home and installed on an old 386 I was using for a doorstop was an interesting experience. I worked for many hours to get my installation just right. Eventually I installed it on my PII 266 and my windoze installation, oddly enough, my cable modem picked right up and worked right off the bat. It was the most worrisome part of the entire operation. I was finally free of becoming a drone for . Presently I'm running WINLINUX 2000 on a P75 I had laying around, networked to a P166 and the PII which run Win98 and Win2K respectively. *UPDATE!*Pulling further from the fold of Microsoft I've recently made a few changes. Now I run a PII 300 as an internet server with Windows 2000. I run off this to two AMD machines with Windows XP Professional, Two Xandros Linux workstations (a PII 300 and a PIII 800), and a 486DX Laptop running Windows 95. All of these machines connect to the internet via a Cablemodem connected to the Compaq running W2k. I'm on sick leave these days so I get bored easily and change stuff around so stay tuned for more of the fun that goes on around here.
Well as you can see from the screenshot above, Im using Ubuntu Linux . It's a particularily easy version to install and most of the functions in this version mimic Windoze fairly well. You won't get lost running this version. Also updated with Return to Frequently Asked Questions Page Return to Rob Scott's Ramblings Last Updated: 21/May/2008 |
